Kiosk Mode

Ideal for high-traffic events where attendees need to check in quickly, Kiosk Mode allows you to set up a mobile device with a camera to scan QR codes provided to attendees.

Kiosks can be unattended for self-scanning by attendees, or can be used by staff to scan QR codes.

Setting up a kiosk device

For the best experience with kiosk mode:

  • Use a tablet or computer with a camera (built-in or external)
  • Ensure a stable internet connection
  • Full-screen mode recommended for dedicated kiosk stations

From ClassLark:

  1. Click on Events in the main menu.
  2. Choose the event name from the list, and click Check-Ins.
  3. Click Setup Kiosk to generate a setup QR code.

Then, on a dedicated device used for scanning:

  1. Open the kiosk URL shown in the instructions, such as kiosk.classlark.com
  2. Scan the setup QR code with the device's camera.

Once set up, attendees can scan their personal QR codes (from their timetable) to check in instantly.

Configuring your kiosk

To access kiosk settings after setup, tap the invisible button in the top-right corner of the screen. From here you can:

  • View the event name and number of check-ins processed
  • Select a different camera (if multiple are available)
  • Test success and error sounds
  • Reset the kiosk

Camera selection

If your device has multiple cameras, you can select which one to use:

  • During setup, a camera selector appears below the video feed.
  • After setup, access camera settings by tapping the top-right corner of the screen.

Resetting the kiosk

If you need to reconfigure the kiosk for a different event:

  1. Tap the top-right corner to open settings.
  2. Click Reset Kiosk.
  3. Confirm the reset.
  4. Scan a new setup QR code to reconfigure.

Attendee check-in experience

When check-in is enabled, attendees receive QR codes with their event timetable:

  1. A unique QR code appears on their timetable.
  2. At the event, they scan their QR code at a kiosk station.
  3. The kiosk provides instant feedback (green screen = success, red screen = error).

Important notes:

  • Attendees can only check in once per day.
  • Check-ins are tracked separately for each event date.
  • If check-in is disabled, the QR code section is hidden from attendee timetables.

Tips

For smooth check-ins:

  • Set up kiosk devices before attendees arrive
  • Position kiosks in well-lit areas for better camera performance
  • Use devices with built-in cameras for a cleaner setup
  • Test the kiosk with a staff member's QR code before the event starts
  • Enable full-screen mode on kiosk devices to prevent accidental navigation

Troubleshooting:

  • If the camera isn't working, check browser permissions
  • If QR codes won't scan, ensure good lighting and hold the code steady within the frame
  • If attendees can't check in, verify that check-in is enabled in event settings
  • If the kiosk needs reconfiguration, use the reset option in settings
